Neighborways worked with the Office of Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria and the Planning and Development Department to improve an underutilized public pathway and its immediate surroundings with the input and support of Everett residents. Beautification Way forms a pedestrian cut-through between a residential area and high school, and the commercial zone of Ferry Street with transit access at Glendale Square.

Our process

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we were in the Community Outreach phase. Neighborways pivoted from in-person outreach strategies to online, launching a public art survey on Facebook, local networks and email lists including the Integral Arts Everett and Everett Public Schools. Our goals were to solicit art themes and ideas from the community for how to create a more people friendly, beautiful space.

Working with the property managers with an adjacent shopping complex, we arranged for eight magnolia trees to be planted in Spring 2020 to bring more beauty and nature to the space. A path has also been paved to support greater accessibility through the site.

In October 2020, we coordinated a Paint Day on Beautification Way, bringing together community partners, volunteers, local teachers and students. They painted a 750 sq. foot mural of multicolored waveforms. The final piece also incorporates the work of several local muralists in one single, cohesive display of diversity, nature and the Everett community.
