Creating your own Neighborway

It all begins with an idea. If your neighborhood could use a Neighborway, organize a get-together like a Lemonade Social or potluck, get everyone talking, and you can start to get consensus and dream up ideas. Research what others have done for inspiration.

Organize

It usually takes us a 3 to 6 month design process to generate ideas, outreach to the neighborhood to get consensus and finalize plans, and get city or town buy-in. If doing an artistic street painting, hire and artist- they can make a mock-up of how your additions would look, and a plan as seen from above. Here are some how-to tips. You can also look for sources of funding to help.

Create

For artistic street painting: prior to your Paint Day, your artist can sketch the design out on the street, so on the day of, you and your neighbors can have clear guides to paint in. Be sure to have brushes, rollers, rags, buckets, washwater, a shade tent, and drinking water on hand. Have a great painting party, take pictures of the process and results!
