Everett’s Beautification Way

Earlier this month, a group of volunteers, local teachers and youth joined Neighborways Design, in collaboration with Mayor Carlo DeMaria and the City of Everett, to paint a mural on Beautification Way. Neighborways Design thanks Mayor DeMaria for his leadership and the promotion of the arts and diversity in Everett. It was a beautiful day of community connections, made particularly special by the participation of Everett High School students, as well as teachers Amanda Gil and Briana Pierce.

The project began over a year ago by visioning what was possible in the alley. Working with the property managers for the shopping complex, eight magnolia trees were planted this past spring to bring more beauty and nature to the space. When the pandemic hit, Neighborways pivoted from in person outreach strategies to online, launching a public art survey sharing on Facebook, local networks and email lists including Integral Arts Everett and Everett Public Schools. Our goals were to solicit art themes and ideas from the community for how to create a more people friendly, beautiful space.

Tying in the mural of the past, brightly colored wisps of wind frame a bright peace sign that inspires and invites calm, peace, and movement through the alley. A select group of artists have been chosen to elaborate on the wisps, offering up their own interpretation of what it means to celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of the Everett community.
